A recent study conducted by researchers at Temple University and Wisconsin HOPE Lab found that 36 percent of university students in the U.S. are facing food and housing insecurity. Nine percent of those are outright homeless. Using these statistics, the estimated percentage of students at CNM facing housing insecurity is close to 2000.
Holly Hitzemann, CNM instructor, has formed an alliance with The For My Earth Project and the Visionary Women’s Collaborative to assist these students. These two organizations are providing backpacks for CNM students without permanent housing. Your support will help provide more backpacks filled with essentials for daily living.
We hope you will want to contribute. Each $20 donation goes toward a backpack filled with toiletries, school supplies, socks (gender neutral), miniature flashlight and small towel. We research and purchase the items from discounted sources.
We also include a resource card, Reasons to call the Peer to Peer Warmline with a 211 phone number that students in need or trouble can call to be guided to appropriate resources.
Our project is warming our hearts, we hope it will warm yours too. We are grateful for anything you can do.
